Information in the Digital Data Package

Each Data and Information Package has one or more CD ROMs and one or more 8mm tapes, containing data previously selected by the ANP for one sector or a group of sectors in a basin. The Data and Information Package for this round includes a quota of data for this sector or group of sectors, which will be selected by the participant exclusively within the quota established by the ANP in the Initial Tender Protocol.

The CDs contains general information and well data, and the 8mm tape(s) contains the seismic data. Each of the data categories is described below. There is information on how the data was retrieved, handled, formatted and finally recorded in its current format.

For all 21 sectors in 9 basins, the Data Package is composed of 24 CDs and 13 tapes.

Quota

In this round, a quota of seismic data for an offshore sector or group of sectors or well data for an onshore sector or group of sectors is an integral part of the Data and Information Package. It will be selected by the participant, exclusively in the sector or group of sectors of the Data and Information Package, limited to the amount established by the ANP in the Initial Tender Protocol.

The available data for the selection of the quota for each sector or group of sectors, are those shown in the item Additional Data (BDEP) in the Sectors section of the respective Data and Information Package CD, and are limited exclusively to:

» Totally recovered seismic lines (parts of lines will not be recovered) for the offshore sector or group of sectors; or

» Well log curves, composite logs and well files for the onshore sector or group of sectors.

CD ROM Content

The CD ROM contains exclusively PDF, shapefiles, ASCII, LAS and LIS files (well log curve data). All files in pdf and ASCII format were indexed. The CD ROM is divided into sections.

The Maps section has maps relating to the current exploration concessions and sectors and respective blocks offered in Brasil Round 5. This section also includes files in text and shapefile formats, with the coordinates of all blocks offered in Brasil Round 5, both in polyconic projection and latitude/longitude.

The section Basin Information can be accessed through the Initial page or by the navigation of the Maps section. This section includes the Geological Summary, with information on the location and petroleum system of the basin. The geological summary is available in both English and Portuguese. Gravimetric and magnetometric maps, stratigraphic charts, structural framework and geological cross-sections of the basin are also available.

The Sectors section can be accessed by the Initial page or the navigation of the Basin Information section. It contains maps of the sectors and the respective location of the blocks; of the available seismic and wells; and data available in BDEP for the selection of the quota of data. It also contains a georeferenced project to facilitate the identification and selection of data for the quota.

The Well Files section contains reports relative to a specific well.
The Well data section contains the General Well File (“Arquivo Geral de Poços -AGP”), the geochemistry and the Composite Logs relative to a specific well.

Well Data

The data was made available for the offshore sectors in a different manner from the sectors in mature basins. For the offshore sectors data for all exploration wells drilled is available, whereas for the mature basins a selection was made using the following criteria:

» Wells with hydrocarbons (HC) (included from oilfield discovery well to dry well with oil trace). A distribution with at least one well per block was selected. In this criterion no wells located in oilfields or development areas were selected.

» Wells with seismic reference (time x depth table).

» Dry wells without HC. In blocks where none of the above criteria were matched, preference was given to deeper wells;

» Wells located in producing oilfields or those under development. Preference was given to wells classified as oilfield discovery wells.

There are five kinds of well data:

» General Well File (Arquivo Geral de Poços - AGP, in Portuguese);

» Composite Logs;

» Geochemistry data;

» Well files;

» Well log curves.

The characteristics of each type of well data are described below.
In general, none of the existing databases are complete. Although the AGP and the Well Files are complementary in many aspects, and data absent in one may frequently be found in the other.

In Brasil Round 5 data packages include data from wells drilled recently. The data sets that the ANP requests from operators for these wells is still being consolidated, therefore the available data is heterogeneous in content and quality.

General Well File

The General Well File (Arquivo Geral de Poços – AGP) is a digital database. It comprises, among other data, coordinates, lithostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy, log headers, time x depth tables, formation test results and interpreted lithologies for each sampled depth in the well. All this information has different origins, and can include the well files. The degree of updating is quite diverse According to the period or the region and the AGP is not available for most of the recently drilled wells.

The AGP was retrieved in ASCII format, then formatted to fit standard page sizes and converted to PDF. The AGPs are located below the Well data section of the CD ROM, indexed by well.

Composite Logs

The composite logs generated for each well include the interpreted lithology, hydrocarbon shows, lithostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy. A set of curves was selected, including Caliper, GR, DT, SP, RHOB, TTI and a resistivity curve, where these curves existed in the database.

The composite logs were created in PDF format files and indexed by the well names.

For the wells drilled recently, the composite logs were scanned from paper copies provided by the operators.

The composite logs are located below the Well data section of the CD ROM for each basin.

Well Files

The well files comprise public reports relative to any single well. This includes the cuttings' description (on site), drilling and production reports. It also includes additional, diverse laboratory analysis, such as tests on cores and cuttings, fluids sampling, production tests and other reports done after the actual drilling of the well. As in the other databases, these files are not always complete. The majority of these reports are available in Portuguese only, many documents being handwritten.

The multiple files relative to each well file were converted to a single PDF file. This PDF file has a 3 level navigation. The first level describes, through its first 3 letters (in capitals), the theme: GEO for Geology, PER for Drilling and PRO for Production. The file is indexed by the title of the document.

Geochemistry data

Geochemistry analysis data is available for a large number of wells and is included in the directory \Geochem, in ASCII format. The files can be accessed through the CD-ROM Well data section, indexed by well.

Log curves

Log curves data in LIS format were retrieved from the ANP’s databank (BDEP). The files were also recorded in LAS format in the \Well_Logs directory on the CD ROM, with the exception of the recently drilled wells. In this directory there is one directory for each file type (LAS and LIS), where the files have the respective well names.

The LAS curves were combined (spliced). When one kind of curve (GR for example), from the same tool or even different tools, is repeated over one interval, more than one curve was generated.

Seismic Data

Post-stack data has specially been made available.
The seismic data selection followed the criteria below:

» All processed 2D lines digitally-stored on ANP's Database for the onshore sectors, were included;

» 3D processed surveys digitally-stored on ANP's Database, that have significant coverage of the blocks in the onshore sectors were included.

» A set of selected 2D lines for the offshore sectors, to allow the companies to develop a wider understanding about the regional geology and the basin evolution, were included

The seismic data was exported directly to 8mm tapes, using the UNIX tar command and high density (/dev/rmt/0hbn) in standard SEG-Y format.

Besides the UTM coordinates in the SEGY file headers, separate files were provided on the tape with the name (UKOOA*) containing them.

For 3D data loading purposes, files were provided on the tape with extension (.grid) containing the corner points and its coordinates.
