Information in the Digital Data Package

Each Data and Information Package has one CD ROM containing general information and maps, one or more DVDs containing the well data and one or more 8mm tapes containing the seismic data. For the onshore sectors and the deep water sectors of Santos, Campos and Sergipe-Alagoas basins, the Data and Information Package includes a quota of wells which will be selected by the participant exclusively within the quota established by the ANP in the Initial Tender Protocol.

The Data Package for the Camamu-Almada and Santos basins includes the final report of the projects of oil and gas potential evaluation, developed by COPPE and UNESP, respectively, under ANP finnancing. The reports include isopach and structural maps, oil and gas generation and migration modeling and interpreted regional seismic sections.

Quota

In this round, a quota of wells, applied exclusively for the sectors indicated above, is an integral part of the Data and Information Package.

The available data for the selection of the quota for each sector or group of sectors, are those shown in georeferenced projects included in the General Information CD ROM. The data of quota are limited exclusively to well log curves, composite logs and well files (when available).

Additional data may be obtained from the Exploration and Production Database (Banco de Dados de Exploração e Produção – BDEP), in accordance with the terms for use and costs which are available on the webpage at www.bdep.gov.br.

CD ROM Content

The CD ROM is divided into 3 sections and contains general information about the basin and the data package.

The section Data Package Information contains a text with detais about the Data Package content. There is information on how the data was retrieved, handled, formatted and finally recorded in its current format.

The section Basin Information includes the geological summaries, exploration history and information on the location and petroleum system of all the basins and sectors included in this Round. The geological summary is available in both English and Portuguese. Gravimetric and magnetometric maps, stratigraphic charts, structural framework and geological cross-sections of the basin are also available.

The section Georeferenced Projects includes the GIS projects with seismic and wells available in the packages. It facilitates the identification and selection of data for the quota .

DVD Content

Due the large amount of data to be included in the packages, ANP decided to store the well data in DVD media (4.7Gbytes).

As already explained, for the deep sectors in Santos, Campos and Sergipe-Alagoas the package will include a set of well selected by ANP and a quota selected by companies. For the other offshore sectors, all public exploration wells located in free areas (no concession) is available.

For the mature basins a well selection was made using the following criteria:

» Wells with hydrocarbons (HC) (included from oilfield discovery well to dry well with oil trace). A distribution with at least one well per block was selected. In this criterion no wells located in oilfields or development areas were selected.

» Wells with seismic reference (time x depth table).

» Dry wells without HC. In blocks where none of the above criteria were matched, preference was given to deeper wells.

» Wells located in producing oilfields or those under development. Preference was given to wells classified as oilfield discovery wells.

Well Data

There are five kinds of well data:

» General Well File (Arquivo Geral de Poços - AGP, in Portuguese);

» Composite Logs;

» Geochemistry data;

» Well files;

» Well log curves.

The characteristics of each type of well data are described below.

In general, none of the existing databases are complete. Although the AGP and the Well Files are complementary in many aspects, and data absent in one may frequently be found in the other.

In Brasil Round 6 data packages include data from wells drilled recently. The data sets that the ANP requests from operators for these wells is still being consolidated, therefore the available data is heterogeneous in content and quality.

General Well File

The General Well File (Arquivo Geral de Poços – AGP) is a digital database. It comprises, among other data, coordinates, lithostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy, log headers, time x depth tables, formation test results and interpreted lithologies for each sampled depth in the well. All this information has different origins, and can include the well files. The degree of updating is quite diverse According to the period or the region and the AGP is not available for most of the recently drilled wells.

The AGP was retrieved in ASCII format, then formatted to fit standard page sizes and converted to PDF. The AGPs are located in the directory “AGP_General well files”.

Composite Logs

The composite logs generated for each well include the interpreted lithology, hydrocarbon shows, lithostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy. A set of curves was selected, including Caliper, GR, DT, SP, RHOB, TTI and a resistivity curve, where these curves existed in the database.

For some wells drilled recently, the composite logs were scanned from paper copies provided by the operators.

The composite logs are located below the Well data section of the CD ROM for each basin.

The composite logs were created in PDF format files and included in the directory “Perfil composto_Composite logs”.

Well Files

The well files comprise public reports relative to any single well. This includes the cuttings' description (on site), drilling and production reports. It also includes additional, diverse laboratory analysis, such as tests on cores and cuttings, fluids sampling, production tests and other reports done after the actual drilling of the well. As in the other databases, these files are not always complete. The majority of these reports are available in Portuguese only, many documents being handwritten.

The multiple files relative to each well file were converted to a single PDF file. This PDF file has a 3 level navigation. The first level describes, through its first 3 letters (in capitals), the theme: GEO for Geology, PER for Drilling and PRO for Production. The file is indexed by the title of the document. The well files are included in the directory “Pastas de poço_well files”.

Geochemistry data

Geochemistry analysis data is available for a large number of wells and is included in the directory “Geoquímica_Geochemistry”, in ASCII format.

Log curves

Log curves data in LIS format were retrieved from the ANP’s databank (BDEP). The files were also recorded in LAS format, with the exception of the recently drilled wells.

The LAS curves were combined (spliced). When one kind of curve (GR for example), from the same tool or even different tools, is repeated over one interval, more than one curve was generated.

The log curves are included in the directory “curvas de perfis_log curves”.

Seismic Data

Post-stack data has specially been made available.

The seismic data selection followed the criteria below:

» All processed 2D lines digitally-stored on ANP’s Database for the onshore sectors, were included;

» 3D processed surveys digitally-stored on ANP’s Database, that have significant coverage of the blocks in the onshore sectors were included;

» A set of selected 2D lines for the offshore sectors, to allow the companies to develop a wider understanding about the geology and potential of the areas under offer.

The seismic data was exported directly to 8mm tapes, using the UNIX tar command and high density (/dev/rmt/0hbn) in standard SEG-Y format.

Besides the UTM coordinates in the SEGY file headers, separate files were provided on the tape with the name (UKOOA*) containing them.

For 3D data loading purposes, files were provided on the tape with extension (.grid) containing the corner points and its coordinates.

The 29 sectors offered in Brasil Round 6 are grouped in 17 Data Packages. Click in the links below to view maps and additional information on the well and seismic data available in the Data Package:
